Mobile technologies are everywhere and they are expanding without constraint. They impact businesses of all sizes and across all industries. From 2000 to 2012, the number of mobile subscriptions worldwide grew from fewer than 1 billion in 2000 to more than 6 billion in 2012. In the United States, 85 percent of all US adults own a cell phone, 67 percent of new cell phones sold in 2012 were smartphones, and 34 percent of all households are wireless-only. Mobile applications (apps) are being introduced at a rate of more than 1,600 per day.
